How to buy the AP bus ticket in Katowice to reach the airport: where to find it, travel time, and the current low-cost fare.

What do I like about Brno? First of all, the fact that almost everything is within walking distance and that it’s generally a safe city. Then, of course, the beer (how could I not mention beer? Hauskrecht in my heart), and the fact that, all things considered, you can have a good time (also thanks to the beer). I could keep going for a while—without exaggerating; Brno has its downsides too, like any city—but one of the reasons that definitely ranks high among those that make Brno a good place to live is the number of airports within easy reach.
If the local airport isn’t exactly well connected (there are a few more flights in summer, but it would certainly be nice if the hub grew larger), living in Brno comes with the advantage of having several major airports at a reasonable distance.
Vienna International Airport (VIE, Austria): about 115–120 km from Brno, roughly 2 hours by car or bus/train.
Bratislava Airport (BTS, Slovakia): about 115–150 km from Brno, roughly 1.5–2 hours by car.
Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG, Czech Republic): about 200–220 km from Brno, roughly 2.5 hours by car, train, or FlixBus.
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD, Hungary): about 325–330 km from Brno, roughly 3 hours by car in normal traffic conditions.
Katowice International Airport (KTW, Poland): about 245–260 km from Brno, roughly 2 hours 30 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes by car.
Where to buy tickets to reach Katowice Airport
Here I want to focus on Katowice, an airport often used to save money on flights. Some routes are cheaper than from Vienna or Prague—and Prague, all things considered, is roughly the same distance from Brno as the Polish city.
Katowice has grown significantly over the years, a bit like Brno. Unlike Brno, however, its airport offers many interesting flight options (and it’s honestly a shame that Brno, the second-largest city in the Czech Republic, doesn’t).
The main issue is that bus stops are not very clearly marked. I’ve often had trouble finding the correct one near the bus station, where I usually arrive by bus from Brno. For this reason, I strongly suggest heading to the central station: on an underground level you’ll find all the bus stops, including the one for the infamous AP line to the airport. In the same underground area, you’ll also find the automatic ticket machines (where you can pay by card) to buy your ticket. Don’t look for any special airport bus or dedicated ticket: you just need a standard public transport ticket for a regular city line.
Which ticket should you buy?
You simply need a standard public transport ticket. The journey takes about 40 minutes, so choose a ticket that covers that duration (there is a specific 40-minute ticket). The real advantage is the price: it’s very cheap, around PLN 5–6, which is roughly €1.20–€1.40 depending on the current fare. An extremely affordable way to reach Katowice Airport.
