When will Hlavni Nadrazi area reconstruction in Brno end?

Hlavni Nadrazi - how it will be

The reconstruction of the area in front of Brno’s Hlavni Nadrazi railway station began on March 1st and is currently underway. The project aims to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment, with a new pedestrian zone to replace a road on the side of the Letmo department store. This will allow for the removal of the railing from the northernmost tram stop, while a passage and a crossing point will be created at the southern stop adjacent to the station building.

After the completion of the construction, cars will only be able to pass through Nádražní Street in the direction of Nové Sady, and there will be no driving allowed around Letma to make way for the pedestrian zone. These changes will significantly improve the pedestrian experience in the area.

The reconstruction will occur in two stages, with the Letma side being worked on until May 14th, followed by the railway station side. This revitalization project has been long-awaited, with the previous tram island reconstruction in 2017 leading to longer pedestrian journeys and an overall unappealing environment. Despite previous attempts to slow down car traffic, the project was delayed until now, with hopes of finally creating a safer and more welcoming space for all pedestrians.

All of these updates have been communicated by the official website of the project, https://kopemezabrno.cz/. As of April 4th, the reconstruction is ongoing and progressing according to the planned timeline.

The project is expected to be completed by June 30th, bringing much-needed improvements to the area in front of Brno’s main railway station.
