I’m an Italian who has been living in Brno for about 7 years now.
Contrary to expectations, my love for pizza isn’t an obsession, but rather a genuine appreciation shared by anyone who savors the diverse culinary delights from India, Mexico, Greece, and beyond—regions quite distant from each other.
While my pizza preferences may not align with orthodox views, I won’t cringe if you fancy pineapple-topped pies. Feel free to indulge, and may your enjoyment be boundless.
Perhaps what sets me apart from those not hailing from the Bel Paese is my extensive pizza consumption history, albeit still less than a ninja turtle. Over the years, I’ve savored an average of a couple of pizzas per month, with occasional intense periods reaching up to a couple of pizzas per week.
Having sampled both humble and gourmet pizzas, my discerning taste buds lead me to distinguish a superior pizza from a less remarkable one. Today, I aim to share a concise overview of the finest pizzas in Brno as of February 2024.
I anticipate Expat247 blog’s regular updates to the ranking, acknowledging the evolving landscape of pizza quality and potential new contenders. If you have pizza recommendations, feel free to drop an email, as detailed on the site.
Which is the Best Pizzzeria in Brno? Updated February 2024
Below, I propose what I consider to be the top 3 pizzas, with a bonus mention that deserves highlighting due to its noteworthy quality-price ratio.
1. La Piazza: Located in the central square of Brno (Namesti Svobodi), La Piazza earns the coveted first place (almost a tie). An authentically Italian establishment, it stands out not only for its pizzas but as an all-round restaurant. While Doe Boy’s pizza dough may be slightly better, La Piazza’s quality-price ratio is superior. The exceptional toppings, imported from Italy, particularly shine in the Burrata pizza. Another plus is that La Piazza is the only pizzeria among the three mentioned to offer the calzone—a must-try closed pizza variant.
2. Doe Boy: Claiming the second position is Doe Boy on Štefánikova 39. As the self-proclaimed first Neapolitan pizzeria in Brno, it offers delectable pizzas with impeccable dough, albeit with room for improvement in size and cost. The mortadella and pistachio pizza stands out, along with other tempting options, including one featuring nduja—a must-try for spice enthusiasts.
3. Cucina Nera: Nestled in Dukelská třída, Cucina Nera secures the third spot. While not central and lacking draft beers (a rarity in Czechia), Cucina Nera offers a fairly varied pizza assortment and reasonably priced imported wines. The pizza dough tends to scratch the palate, but the intriguing breadsticks and pleasant summer terrace contribute to a more than acceptable pizza experience.
Bonus Mention: Caruso Pizza deserves recognition as a respected authority in Brno. Despite initial skepticism, their pizza, while not matching the dough quality of the aforementioned, is decent and reasonably priced. Their efficient self-service delivery is commendable, with the only drawback being the inevitable nighttime thirst induced by pizza indulgence.
