Which is the Best Pizzeria in Brno? Updated January 2025

Discover the best pizzerias in Brno for January 2025! From San Giacomo to Zaza and Doe Boy, here’s where to find top-notch Neapolitan pizza.

I originally planned to update this ranking annually, but I’ve decided to switch to a biannual schedule (so wait for next update in June). It’s uncertain whether the restaurants reviewed here have seen this article, but what is certain is that dozens of users have landed on Expat247’s Brno page by searching for “Best pizza in Brno”. I don’t want to disappoint them, especially as the city’s pizza scene is ever-evolving.

Let me start by saying that La Piazza has seen a drastic drop in the quality of its pizzas.

Previously, I had ranked La Piazza, located in Náměstí Svobody, as the top pizzeria in Brno. However, when I first moved to the city seven years ago, their pizza quality was mediocre—thin, unimpressive crusts with bland toppings, on par with any generic non-Italian pizzeria. While they haven’t entirely reverted to those days, the crust has definitely thinned since my last review (no, it doesn’t feel like Neapolitan pizza anymore), and the new flavors are disappointing. Take, for example, the “Vulcano” pizza, which I was excited to try—it’s all jalapeño and no ’nduja (the flavorful Calabrian spicy sausage it should feature).

The restaurant now seems to focus on “posh” products like Kobe beef and oysters instead of refining their established dishes. Some of their better items have even been removed from the menu, like the cotoletta alla milanese, which, though unorthodox (more like a fried pork chop), was genuinely good. Whether this shift will pay off remains to be seen—currently, La Piazza sits at #2 on Tripadvisor for Brno, but we’ll see where they stand in six months.

For upscale ingredients like Kobe beef, I’d rather visit Monte Bu or Da Butcher, and for seafood? I’d hesitate to try it at La Piazza, especially after a terrible experience with their “special” pizza made with squid-ink dough—it was completely inedible.

The Best Pizzerias in Brno (January 2025 Edition)

Let’s dive into this year’s ranking. While Doe Boy remains a standout as Brno’s first true Neapolitan pizzeria (something they proudly declare on Instagram), two new entries have surged ahead due to their central location and comparable quality. Here’s my updated list:

1. San Giacomo

A new heavyweight on the Brno pizza scene, San Giacomo offers authentic Neapolitan pizzas with a base that’s just right. Their inventive toppings, like the one featuring pepperoni, honey, and chili, are a delight. The restaurant itself exudes a classy vibe, much like La Piazza, and even offers live music on occasion. However, their use of the stereotypical “Italian hand gesture” (visible even on their storefront) is more annoying than charming.

2. Zaza

Located in the city center, Zaza has a significant drawback: it’s quite small, and in winter, when outdoor seating isn’t available, finding a table can be tricky. However, their pizza is outstanding—another stellar example of Neapolitan style—and slightly more affordable than the competition. Their priciest pizza, the truffle one, costs 320 CZK, which is reasonable given the quality.

3. Doe Boy

It’s impossible not to mention Doe Boy among the top contenders. They’ve set the standard for Neapolitan pizza in Brno, and while some newer places have matched their quality, Doe Boy remains a staple for pizza lovers in the city.

Unlike the other two pizzas in the ranking, we haven’t included Doe Boy’s menu as it’s almost impossible to find it. (Owner of Doe Boy, if you’re reading this, please contact us and provide the menu.)

Honorable Mentions

In my previous review, I gave Caruso a bonus mention, and it still stands as Brno’s go-to budget option. That said, the pizza quality has declined (I’ve had some overly chewy “Trentino” pizzas recently). On a positive note, they’ve added focaccia to the menu, which is both delicious and wallet-friendly.

For now, I’m sticking to a top-three ranking. If more exceptional pizzerias emerge, I’ll consider expanding this list to a top five in the next update.
