MotoGP returns to Brno: a historic comeback after five years

Brno Circuit, a MotoGP icon, is back on the calendar from 2025 to 2029 after a five-year break. Learn more about the return of the Czech GP.

In 1987, the new Brno Circuit, also known as the Masaryk Circuit, was inaugurated. Since then, except for 1992—the year of the split from Slovakia—the MotoGP World Championship raced continuously on the circuit until 2020, when Brno Circuit terminated its contract with MotoGP, ending the Czech Republic Grand Prix.

However, starting next year, Brno will once again host Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP, marking a return five years after the last race, where Italy’s Dennis Foggia, Enea Bastianini, and South Africa’s Brad Binder claimed victories in their respective categories. Brno is back on the map, reclaiming one of the key events that made it famous worldwide (admit it: how many times have you heard, “Ah, Brno, the MotoGP city”?).

MotoGP, the official comeback to Brno

MotoGP has officially announced the return of racing to the legendary Automotodrom Brno. A favorite among fans and riders, the Czech circuit will once again welcome the thrilling world of MotoGP from 2025 through 2029.

Brno’s MotoGP history spans over half a century, beginning with its first Grand Prix in 1965. Initially, races took place on a street circuit before moving to the purpose-built Automotodrom Brno in 1987. This venue became a staple on the MotoGP calendar, hosting annual races until 2020, with a brief hiatus in 1992.

The year 2025 marks a new era for Brno, as the Czech Grand Prix makes its much-anticipated return to the MotoGP schedule, continuing until 2029.

Petr Fiala, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, expressed his enthusiasm, as reported by the official MotoGP website: “Motorcycle racing has a tradition at the Brno Masaryk Circuit dating back to the 1950s. MotoGP is a prestigious global event that brings tens of thousands of visitors to the Czech Republic, particularly to South Moravia, many of whom come from abroad. I am very pleased that we have managed to continue this tradition and that the MotoGP race will return to Brno after five years.”

Jan Šťovíček, President of the Czech Republic Autoklub, shared his optimism: “I always trusted MotoGP would return to Brno. All these years I was asked many times by riders, team officials, Dorna, and FIM people what is happening there and when we will be back because everybody loves Brno. This was made possible with the change of circuit owner, as the new owner decided to invest in the development of this iconic facility. Big thanks to the Czech Government and Prime Minister Mr. Fiala, South Moravian Region and Governor Mr. Grolich, City of Brno and its Mayor Mrs. Vaňková, and the event partner Creditas Group!”
