AirBaltic’s new Prague-Vilnius route, launching March 30, 2025, will feature aircraft named by online voters, Kunda and Püssi.
airBaltic has announced that two of its aircraft, humorously named Kunda and Püssi, will begin servicing a new direct route between Prague and Vilnius starting March 30, 2025. The announcement was made public on Friday, September 6.
Unlike most routes, these aircraft won’t follow a fixed schedule. Instead, they will be deployed as needed, depending on airBaltic’s operational demands at the time.
According to airBaltic’s press office, “The plan remains unchanged. All airBaltic A220-300 aircraft will be assigned according to operational requirements and available on all routes within the airline’s network,” as reported by Novinky.cz.
In an interesting twist, airBaltic conducted an online poll in August, inviting the public to choose names for its fleet of 48 aircraft. Voters had the chance to pick from a list of real Baltic cities. Due to the influence of Czech internet users, the Estonian city of Kunda secured first place in the poll (ironically, “Kunda” is a crude slang term for female genitalia in Czech). The city of Püssi, another Estonian location with an amusing name, came in second.
The voting process quickly went viral among Czech users, who couldn’t resist the playful options.
The first flights of these newly named aircraft are expected to take off in early 2025.
