Kafe v rozkladu in Brno, an Honest Review: bagels, coffee, and a cozy breakfast spot

Honest review of Kafe v rozkladu in Brno: fresh bagels, quality coffee, and a family-friendly vibe. A go-to breakfast and brunch café.

Living in the city center, Veselá is a street I walk almost every day.

More than once, while passing by small shops and cafés, one place in particular caught my eye—Kafe v rozkladu. What made it stand out? The fact that it serves bagels in Brno, something I love and often crave for breakfast or a quick snack.

Some time ago, I had a trusted spot in Brno for bagels, but later I switched to McDonald’s and their commercial, not-so-healthy version (two sausages and a slice of bacon with mustard—a true cholesterol bomb).

I kept telling myself I’d give this café a try, and finally, one Saturday morning, I went there with my family (bonus: there’s even a kids’ corner). Spoiler alert—it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise.

Because as soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by a place that is simply… beautiful.

The interior is carefully designed: maybe not to everyone’s taste, but you can clearly see the effort. Records and cups are embedded in the walls, and the armchairs look like they were picked up at an antique fair, creating a unique and cozy atmosphere that makes this a great breakfast spot in Brno.

And then, the bagels. Expectations were not disappointed (and usually, they are). I chose one with ham, omelette, and guacamole, and I must say each flavor stood out. It was filling, far more than the McDonald’s version. Of course, the price is higher—Mc charges 99 CZK for a bagel, while here you pay more—but the quality justifies it. I’ll definitely be back to try other bagel options, and if I ever get disappointed, I’ll report back.

As for the coffee, there are plenty of options, appealing to different nationalities: Italian espresso, Spanish cortado, even a Greek-style freddo cappuccino (not literally named that, but essentially the same). This last iced cappuccino in particular is delicious, comes with various customization options, and yes—costs a bit more. But these days coffee in Brno isn’t cheap anyway, with places like Kofi Kofi often charging over 100 CZK for a cup.

The rest of the menu isn’t huge, but honestly, that often works in a café’s favor.

In the end, breakfast for two with two carefully prepared coffees came to around 700 CZK, which is pretty standard for Brno.

Luckily, I didn’t check Google reviews beforehand (and still haven’t). With a 4.2-star rating, I might not have been too convinced to try. But forget Google ratings—here’s my honest review of Kafe v rozkladu: a cozy, family-friendly café in Brno with tasty bagels, quality coffee, and a nice atmosphere.
