An honest review of Schrott in Brno: industrial bar near the main station, expat-friendly but with mixed vibes, service quirks and average beer.

I had noted this place down quite some time ago, but I don’t always do what I should when I should (which is precisely why my notes are endless—or almost—despite my ongoing effort to shorten them).
I wanted to write a few lines about Schrott, assuming search indexing will allow someone to actually read this review. In any case, I’m writing it now—if only to clear one more item off my notes.
We’re talking about a pub near Brno’s main train station, located precisely at Křenová 10, roughly a 10-minute walk at most from Hlavní nádraží.
Let’s go step by step. The location is certainly distinctive: it describes itself as an industrial bar, and that’s accurate. The look is strongly post-industrial, with pipes, valves, boilers—an aesthetic that’s undeniably interesting and slightly cyberpunk. This visual identity is clear from the very entrance, starting with the Schrott sign mounted above the venue.
This aesthetic fascinated me from the very first time I visited. And even though the website doesn’t have an English version, communication in English is not an issue at all—so from that perspective, the place can definitely be considered expat-friendly.
That said, during my last visit something happened that left a sour taste. Instead of politely asking us to leave at closing time, the waiter chose a passive-aggressive approach, repeatedly switching the lights on and off until we got the message. I’ve seen this kind of behavior before in northern Spain—where it’s almost a custom—but in the Czech Republic it was a first for me.
As for the beer, I didn’t find the experience particularly memorable. The place is always crowded, and if people keep coming it obviously means something works—either the venue itself or the beers. Still, the last time I went I even had some stomach issues the day after, which didn’t help my overall impression.
I will go back—I don’t like leaving a negative review, especially considering I’ve only been there about three times in total. I’m absolutely open to revising my opinion. For now, though, it’s not a place I’d strongly recommend.
