Tomkovo Namesti Public Works: Progress Report and Expected Completion Date

Tomkovo Namesti Reconstruction Set to Finish by Year End 2023.

The Tomkovo Namesti reconstruction project, aimed at completing the next part of the large city circuit, is set to finish before the end of this year, 2023. The project began on July 1, 2021, and was originally planned for completion in 2024.

The completion of the project will provide relief to traffic in the affected area, enabling drivers to travel more smoothly, and avoiding significant delays for public transport in the vicinity. The VMO Rokytova, once operational, will reduce the traffic load at the intersections of Provazníkova x Karlova and Svatoplukova x Rokytova streets.

In addition, the reconstruction will also help reduce pollution and noise in the area, making it more livable for residents.

The 1.2-kilometer backbone route, which will connect the Husovicky Tunnel and Rokytova Street, includes the construction of a bridge over Tomkovo náměstí and the river Svitava. Both sections have received building permits, and the first cars are expected to pass through the new sections in 2024.

The new beltway will include a bridge that spans Tomkovo náměstí, the river Svitava, and a part of the marshalling station in Maloměřice. This bridge will connect to the Husovicky Tunnel, leading to Rokytovy Street, and in the future, will connect to the planned tunnel under the Vinohrady housing estate.

To keep the public informed about the progress of the project, the Official Twitter account of the Directorate of Roads and Motorways of the Czech Republic for the South Moravian Region published in the middle of February images taken by a drone showing the works in the area. All the works for the new beltway are expected to be completed by 2035.
